Today, I’m speaking with Lynne Marr, 4th Kyu.
Weiner Sensei: What led you to Aikido?
Lynne-san: I found Aikido by accident. I’d always been athletic and had an interest in martial arts but didn’t know enough about them to choose. In my early 20’s I dated a fellow that trained in Ki Aikido and I decided to try it too and could not have picked a better martial art for me. I continually see parallels between what I study in the dojo and what I do in other aspects of my life.
Weiner Sensei: How would you describe class at our dojo?
Lynne-san: Classes vary from day to day and instructor to instructor with the common focus on safety, etiquette and supporting your fellow students in their development. What made me decide to join Aikido of Charlotte is the dojo members treating each other like family as we all progress together on our own Aikido journeys.
Weiner Sensei: What are your short term goals as a student?
Lynne-san: Stay active and continue my personal journey of mind and body unification through Aikido practice and Ki development.
Weiner Sensei: What are your long term goals as a student?
Lynne-san: Progress through the Dan and Den ranks and open a dojo in the community where I’ll (semi) retire. As one of my Sensei’s told me, Aikido is just part of who I am so I want to share it with others.
Weiner Sensei: What does it take to be a committed student?
Lynne-san: Passion for the art, a desire to live in harmony with yourself and others, and the ability to be humble and continuously be a learner.
