Judo classes now offered!
Aikido of Charlotte will now be offering Judo classes...by Sensei Darren Buneo, 5th Dan, Judo
JUDO is a martial art and a system of unarmed attack and defense, founded by Dr Jigoro Kano in 1882 Tokyo, Japan. Kodokan Judo is a refinement of ancient martial art of Jujitsu. Dr Kano, President of the University of Education, Tokyo, studied these ancient forms and integrated what was considered to be the best techniques into was in now referred to as Judo.
Judo is best known for its spectacular throwing techniques but also involves considerable in grappling, arm locks and choking techniques. Traditional Judo as taught in the Seitou Kai Judojo includes the techniques of striking, punching and kicking. The later techniques are most evident in the advanced kata of Judo.
Judo develops self discipline and respect for oneself and others. Judo provides a means for personal growth, spiritual development and self defense. One progress at Seitou Kai Judojo is not measured by his/her success in the arena of sport; rather ones progression is determined primarily upon ones contributions top society as a whole.
Judo, which is translated as the “gentle way” teaches the principle of flexibility in the application of technique. Although gentle in it’s application not at all gentle in its effects. The techniques of traditional judo incorporate a thorough understanding of self defense principles.
The main principle of judo is “Maximum Efficiency” and Mutual Benefit”, these philosophies invoke a spirit of inclusiveness, unlike sport judo where the teacher caters to the young, the strong and the athletic. Traditional Judo as taught by the aforementioned principles is indeed all inclusive, for the old, the disabled regardless of gender.
The teachers at Seitou Kai Judojo subscribe to the philosophy of judo as a martial art, a self defense a way of life. Although sport competition is permitted by our members, we however reminds those of the odds of success and likelihood that one will become an Olympic champion is about one in about (3) million, the chances of the average citizen becoming a crime victim is about one in five.
